Shikinejima
22 of us went to Shikinejima for the weekend. The weather was good for a change.
Santa Belgica organised a trip to Shikinejima island. We met at Hamamatsu harbour on Friday evening and hopped on the ship at 11pm. Sebastian’s and Eddie’s love songs kept the girls away. We landed at 7am in the middle of a downpour and Hiro and I thought it was going to be a replay of our paragliding expedition which was a complete washout. Miserable, we went to an open air onsen and sat in puddles in the rain.
But by 10am the sun came out, and we hit the beaches. If you have QuickTime installed, try the panoramic view.
Eddie shows off more than we would have liked!
The girls were the stars of the volleyball competition.
The food at the minshuku was actually quite good. After tea we went back to the beach and while John and Jim went night diving scaring the fishes, a guy called Suzuki serenaded us and talked us into buying his CD’s.
Sunday morning, we had a quick swim, then we had to catch the 11am ferry back to Tokyo.
Sebastian didn’t want to leave, but Hiro was in a hurry to get back and, with help from Eddie, dragged him aboard.
The locals came out en-masse to say farewell to us
The ship back was uneventful, except for the hawaiian dancing show and the sighting of a submarine.
